Dinner was finished, Markus and Tasha had put off their tour so that Tasha could go and tend to Wynx. He assumed the child was still sick and had avoided meeting with her. Not because he didn't want to meet her, but because he didn't want to catch whatever she had. It wasn't often that Markus did get sick, but when he actually caught something, he got it bad. The last was a flu that had turned quickly into pneumonia about three years ago and before that he hadn't been sick since college. Yeah, best to just avoid being around the little one becuase he really didn't want to run the risk of actually catching whatever she had. He wouldn't doubt it if it were nothing more than a simple cold, but knowing him? He'd get the cold and end up on his deathbed with something else.
He'd walked from the manor, new boots and jeans on his feet, new leather jacket shrouding his chest. A switchblade was tucked into his left pocket, his gun was tucked into his waistband at the small of his back. A spare clip for the gun was in his right pocket, along side a second, smaller blade. Since Tasha was attending to the child he figured he would take the opportunity to go and deal with things at the clinic, at least get a general idea of what they were doing there that made everyone so hesitant to visit. Green eyes surveyed the near empty street, spotting a few people wandering from one place to another, obviously heading home for their dinners. He wondered if there would even be someone at the clinic at this hour, but one never knew.
Wetting his lips as he walked, Markus rounded the corner to see the building, his target, not far up ahead. Game face. He rearranged his features from military man on a mission to innocence. Actually it was easy and mostly believable to someone who'd never really been face to face with a soldier before. Stepping through the unlocked front door at the clinic he let his gaze quickly dance around. "Hello?" He called out, keeping his voice light, easy going. "Anyone around?" He called again since he hadn't gotten an answer. All the while his bright gaze searched everywhere, looking for anythign that might give the place away as something dangerous, something that people avoided.
But other than the mess of cobwebs and the thin layer of dust, he didn't see why people would be avoiding the place. Markus still hadn't gotten an answer so he raised his voice, calling out again. "I was told you might be looking for help here at the clinic.. I was a doctor." He called through the seemingly empty halls. It wasn't a lie. He really had gone to college to be a doctor, and had gone pretty far before realizing his need to try something different. He had a lot of medical experience, so it really wasn't a lie.

Libby and Marcy both were back inside one of the rooms with another speciman when Markus came in so of course the didn't hear right away. No it was the good doctor Johunas who would be the first this time to come out from his lab to greet whoever it was that entered. Letting his eyes wonder over the male having caught briefly some of what he said. "Yes sir we are here just working, what is it I can do for you? I think I caught you mentioning something about being a doctor?" Stepping slowly into the room from around the counter, keeping his body posture calm and welcoming.
Libby and Marcy coming out of the back room heard Johunas's voice and both glanced a moment at each other. Than shrugging they went back to what they needed to knowing he would call for them should the need arise. But for now they would continue with the testing he wished done although they were a little curious about the newcomer in the clinic.

Markus turned, smiling as he heard the voice. He looked completely at ease, relaxed here, as if he weren't worrying about a damned thing. His tongue brushed over his lips, staring at the man who had come from the back. He caught a brief glimpse of the women, though focused his attention on the male. After all, he seemed to be their little leader. "Yeah, I worked for four years up at the Toledo Hospital in Ohio." He said. It was the truth, it was where he'd done his internship. Anyone with half a brain and anyone who knew anything about the Toledo Hospital, best Children's ward in the Northern Hemisphere, best Cardio department in the Northeast Corner of America. Also one of the biggest hospitals in the world. His tongue swept over his lips, taking a step closer to the male and extending a hand in greeting.
"I'm Markus Riley, pleasure to meet you." He said with a soft smile. He barely paid attention to the women who wandered off after taking a look at him. "I ran into Tasha, told her that I had medicl experience and she told me that there was a clinic and that you guys might need some help." He said and then made a face as if he were trying to remember something. His eyes rolled up, brows furrowed in thought, chewing at his lower lip and then turned back to the man. "If I remember correctly she said something along the lines of 'Always useful to have an emergency room physician on hand.'" He said, flashing a warm smile to the man. He let himself fall silent, giving the other male a chance to speak now. Thankfully he knew just how he came off. A middle aged man eager to help out anyway he could, a little bouncy and ADHD maybe, but at least eager to help rather than needing to spy.
One had to learn so much in the military about being an actor. Most would never had realized it, would never have thought that you had to act while you were there. It was a good thing that would pay off in the long run. Wetting his lips he smiled again, letting his gaze dance around the old waiting room.

Johunas studied the man before him carefully, though the welcoming smile remained for now on his face. Hearing the girls down the hall but didn't really need to look and listend as he spoke of being in the hospital in Toledo Ohio. Raising a brow slightly, of course he had heard of that particular place yet surprised one would leave honestly. "That is a well respected hospital you certainly were in good hands those four years." Reaching out to shake his hand and caught the name.
"Nice to meet you Markus, I Johunas the main physician here at the clinic. And Lady Tasha was right. What clinic couldn't use more help especially as it seems more people slowly arrive." Releasing the hand and shifting a little listening as he explained more giving a slight nod of his head. "Well tell me Markus what is your area of expertise? What kind of training did you receive while at the Ohio hospital?" Moving away from the counter and motioned to a door leading into a small office, figuring they both could sit and talk a little. "Please come to my office and we can talk." But of course he was leery of anyone though remained like Markus still calm and relaxed like he had not a care.

Markus smiled as the man shook his hand, nodding about the hospital. "Yeah, the doctors there were helpful, knew how to make sure everyone understood what was going on. Very friendly staff. Admittedly I was upset to have left, though it was for the better." He said with a little smile. His tongue brushed over his lips, listening as the man introduced himself. Johunas? Tasha hadn't given him any names and he was wondering if the woman even really knew who worked here at the clinic, he was betting that she didn't. "It's bound to happen that people will congregate here.. After all, it's one of the last safe places in America. I've been all over the place since the implosion, honestly, there's nothing like Orealis out there." He said as a frown pulled at his lips.
It was the truth, he had been everywhere. And there weren't civilizations like this one out there anymore. Most of them consisted of people grouping together and living in squalor, fighting over food and company and a place to curl up to sleep. Half the world didn't use money or bother with cars or anything anymore. Orealis was truly a saving grace. At the question a brow perked up. "I worked in the emergency room, tending to everything from common colds, cancer patients heading toward the end, gunshot victims, pregnant women, infants. Anyone and everyone that came into the ER had something going on and I did the best I could to help them." A pause as he put more thought into it. "I wouldn't give myself any particular area of expertise, though. I wasn't with the hospital long enough to aquire one. I'd just finished my residency when I decided to move on." He said as he followed the man to the office. Markus waited until the man took a seat before taking one as well.
He brushed a hand back through his hair before speaking again. "I only left the hospital because I felt that there was something more I could be doing with my time-" what was better thanbeing a doctor? "-I enlisted in the Marines and worked with them. I was the medic for our platoon as well as our gunnery expert." He stated calmly. Why lie to the man. It wasn't as if Johunas would be able to search it, internet hadn't worked in years. But it was better to tell him the truth about it, at least enough to make him understand. Besides, if Markus was truthful, then maybe Johunas would be as well.

"Yes there are a very good group of people, I'm sure they felt the same losing you." Nodding some as he continued to study the young man before him, debating if he was trustworthy or possibly another good choice for testing. Although he could tell he was just human the thought did cross his mind for a little while. The words about how Orealis was different from other places had the good doctor listening a little more closely to Markus.
Sure he knew, alot of the people had tried other places only to leave and wind up here. No one was sure how Orealis survived so much better than other locations but than who was going to look a gift horse in the mouth either. Nodding again as he heard what all the young man had experience with and smiled towards him. "Well you certainly have been given a wide variety of experience, which is good since you can't be sure what you will find in cases like this. Tell me did you participate in any kind of medical testing? Like for various disease and such?"
Of course what Johunas was saying or asking was if the man had been in the test physically. But blood test could easily determine if he had any kind of foreign bodies present and if he would work for another subject. Or he might just find himself a staff member...perhaps if the doctor thought he could trust him. Shifting his hip some as he continued to listen, givng light nods obviously understanding what Markus was telling him. Debating what he thought about the military background.
"Ah I see a military man, nothing wrong with that. Probably give you even more training and experience and in areas you wouldn't find outside either." Pausing a moment in thought before continuing. "But alright. Well mind if we do just a few basic tests, with everyone coming in we need to make sure their not sick or anything. You understand right?" Waiting to see how he responsed or acted before continuing.

"I'm sure they did.." He confirmed, watching the older male in front of him. He sat silently, letting the good doctor take in everything that he'd said. Markus let his gaze wander briefly around the small room before landing back on Johunas and waiting for him to say something more. The question that was asked seemed to catch him off guard though, brows furrowing slightly. He shook his head, trying to understand just why the question was asked. "Just the standard tests really. I was checked for TB years ago, the Marines tested everyone who came into camp for HIV and various other communicable diseases. I've had MRI's and CAT scans due to the shrapnel lodged in my skull-" and hand raised to rub at the small scar "-I had been tested once for some cold that soldiers picked up in Iraq. Nothing that would hinder my abilities though." He stated calmly, watching the male again.
"If I might ask. Why do you need to know?" He asked, brows still furrowed carefully. It was a strange thing to ask someone. Markus figured it had to be important, but couldn't figure out why. He leaned back a little more into the chair, folding his hands across his stomach and watching the doctor for a few moments longer. Nodding when the male spoke and opening his mouth to respond before hearing his voice again. A faint chuckle escaped him. "Eh, mostly it was treating wounds or dehydration or even GSW's, nothing that I wouldn't have still been doing in Toledo. What kind of tests are we talking here, doc?" He asked, looking curious and skeptical all at once.
Markus didn't really care for needles, that tattoo on his back had been enough needle pricks to last him a lifetime. His tongue swept over his lower lip to wet it, watching the doctor again and before the man would have had a chance to respond to the first question, he spoke again. "I don't get sick very often, but when I do it's bad enough to keep me in bed for a couple of days. Colds and flus don't really effect me, I've never had much of a problem with keeping healthy. So are we just talking like a blood test, a quick physical.. what?" He asked again, reaching up a hand and scratching at his cheek.

Johunas nodded some before listening to Markus taking a few quick little notes on a pad beside him. Though his eyes seemed to stay on the man before him, although he did seemed to raise a brow at the mention of shrapnel in his head. But than being in the military that was a risk at some point in the career. "Okay so the basic tests we all get in life plus any the military deemed necessary. Sorry since there are no way to really get records for people we hav to get some kind of history going." Glancing to the paper writing down a few more notes.
It was both for medical as well as possible ideas he asked and than came up with some reasons for it to be needed. What with the disaster that happen it was pretty easy. As he asked Johunas smiled looking back up to Markus. "We want to be careful about who comes into Orealis making sure no strange illnesses pop up or some unknown disease. We still haven't all known what happened with the disaster." Pausing a moment before he went on, "I have heard of strange reactions, a few places that have been investigated covered with dead bodies yet it is unclear the cause of death."
Letting out a breath just as he went on and jotted down a little more thinking Markus might be a good speciman. Although he was wanting one of the none human females around to be another subject, Tasha was a sure canidate than again. The Fala hadn't yet to make a check up call, so he wasn't sure how to trick her here. Shifters didn't easily get sick but since Markus knew her perhaps he could convince her at some time. His eyes going back up to the man and smiled. "Just some basic physical checks, blood work, although I don't doubt your ability to know your own body. Its just a precaution I'm sure you understand."
Yes the human male would be a good test subject even without the demon blood though he did plan on getting his two recent escape subjects back. The girl especially. "So if your alright we can do them now."

Markus watched the doctor as the male spoke, nodding carefully. He understood. There was now real way to get ahold of people's records from before the incident and even if there were, that wouldn't make them right. Especially considering that no one knew just how the gases had effected people. It only made sense in the long run to run a physical on every person that came through the door. No one wanted someone to bring in some infectious disease to the town if it could have been prevented. He frowned as Johunas spoke on the strange reaction he'd investigated. "I see. I ran across something a year ago in Lousiana. Everyone was dead but they'd only been dead for a couple of days, according to the one girl that was still alive. The weirdest part was that all of their skin seemed to be peeling away. Just... falling off." He said with a shake of his head before continuing. "Even the girl who was alive had large portions of flesh missing. She was terrified. She only lived another hour or so before the blood loss got her." He said, frowning darkly again.
He understood what the doctor meant about needing to make sure nothing bad came into Orealis, especially knowing that the place was one of the last safe refuges in the world. At least that he'd seen. He nodded again when the man spoke. "Sure, whatever you need. I can give you anything you want, allergies, birthday, surgeries, anything. I agree that you need to run a physical to check up though." He said flashing a brief smile.
Markus pushed himself slowly to his feet, feeling the gun in his waistband shift slightly. "I'm fine with it, lead the way doctor. Whatever you need." He said waiting for the man to get to his feet and lead the way to whatever room they'd conduct the physical in. Naturally he was still watching and waiting for something more. He wasn't sure just what it was but something about the doctor made his skin crawl, put him on edge. He knew that something was going on, but he just had to wait it out until whatever it was became clear.

watching Markus, Johunas was indeed liking this male for some of the testing. Although with the military background he knew it might be a little harder to get him to cooperate so he would have to be careful how he went about this. But as the man agreed to what was a normal physical he smiled nodding some before raising a brow some to his experience in Louisiana. "Hmm now that I hadn't heard about before, interesting I will make a note in my papers about what you just told me." He was telling the truth he hadn't heard about anyone dying from such a horrible experience and could only imagine what one's mind was thinking.
Shifting up slowly he went over to some files and opened the draw pulling out a rather thick file and came back to the desk. "This is my file about various diseases and illnesses we have learned about since the explosion that others coming here or through have told us about. And also where they had seen it at so we can be prepared." Pulling out a few smaller files and than began writing down exactly what he had told him about Louisiana. An estimate about how fast it worked from his words before putting it away.
Than grabbed the pages he had been working on since Markus arrived slipping them into their own file and clipping them in place before standing up and moved out into the hall. Motioning for Markus to come with and than pointed to an room just a few steps from his office and once he went in would follow. "Okay first things while I go get the supplies I need to do blood work, along with a few basic tests is for you to fill in as much as you can on this sheet. If there is an area you don't know or can't remember don't worry."
Holding out the file there was nothing in it that would hint or cause any suspicious and once he took it would slip out closing the door as he left. That form a standard sheet we all filled out in hospital, doctor visits.

Markus watched the doctor, nodding gently as the man said he'd never heard of anything like it before. It was a strange one, he gave it that. He had a feeling it had something to do with an adverse effect from the gases that were still leaking up in various points of the earth that had just taken a long time to actually show their damage. It was probable, especially since no one knew just what the effects of the gases could be. Slowly the green eyes shifted, glancing around the office while he waited before hearing the man stand and instantly followed suit to follow him out into the hall. After stepping into the room he took the paper that the doctor was holding out and gave it a brief once over before nodding again. "I've got a pretty good memory, doc. I think I'll be able to handle it." He said quietly before grabbing the pen attached to the clipboard and settling himself against the counter to write.

Markus shook his head as he looked over the form. A lot of it had been left blank, but that was mostly because he didn't need to fill it in. He hadn't been lying to the doctor, he rarely got sick. He rarely had any problems. It was just that simple. He thought for a moment, debating about putting in the depression and the PTSD, but it hadn't asked for it, so he wasn't going to list it. What would be the point.. not like they could treat him for it anyway, and he was coping just fine. Well, that was a lie. He wasn't really coping at all, but he wasn't going to be honest with himself about that.

While he was out of the room he spoke briefly with his two nurses a short distance away. Letting them know for now he was taking things calmly and not pushing anything with the male in the front room. He didn't want to draw to much attention plus the man was with Tasha. That in and of itself could be a problem since she was seen as the ruler and to piss her off wouldn't help anyone.
Grabbing some vials he asked Marcy to go ahead and get some blood samples so they could start of course basic testing. But also their own to see just how strong and healthy Markus was. Smiling she took the vials and the needle before making her way to the room. Knocking once before stepping inside. "Hi. I'm Marcy the doctor wants me to take some blood for testing. So if you could just sit back, roll up your sleeve on which ever arm you wish and I will make this quick."
Keeping her little routine act up for him as she set the items on the movable tray table while waiting for what he decided. Glancing at the paper though for now left it alone and would let the doctor look over it closer. But she was already at least with Libby talking about the fun they could have with him. He was probably easier to drug than that annoyingly sexy Knox who they would get back. So she was just being her typical self planning out every detail.
Yet never gave anything away taking out her pin and while she waited writing on the little labels that would go on each vial.

Markus flashed a little smile to the girl who entered, figuring she was a nurse or some assistant to Johunas. As she introduced herself he smiled a little brighter. "Markus." He stated lightly before shaking his head. "I'd rather stand, if that's alright." He said as he shrugged out of his jacket and laid it onto the counter before pulling the sleeve of his t-shirt up for her to have access to the crook of his arm. Green eyes focused soley on her face as she set about her work and then onto his arm as he waited for her to jab in the needle to take blood from him.
He fell silent, not really having anything else to say. All he knew was that so far his plan was working. They were doing whatever they needed to do and he was learning who they were. At least it was something to report back to Tasha. And if the good doctor decided to hire him in, then he could get all the information he needed without a seconds hesitation. At this point he was really just going through the motions and accomodating whatever it was they wanted from him. So far everything seemed legit, though he couldn't get past the fact that there was something about the doctor that put him on edge. The little woman had much the same effect, though not nearly as high in quantity. Something about her made his skin crawl, but he didn't show it. Instead he just played the part, standing there like a good patient and waiting for her next move.

Marcy of course flashed him a friendly smile as he introduced himself and she nodded to his words about standing. Wondering if he was that strong to not get dizzy after having his blood taken but didn't ask. Letting him get ready before she rubbed a small cotton ball with alcohol over the area, than used her fingers to try and find the good vein.
Which happened rather fast and she smiled, tying the rubber on the upper arm and rechecking, "Make a fist please." Once he did she kept her finger there while grabbing the needle she need with one vial already set up ready. Pressing softly she pushed the needle in and watched as instantly the blood began flowing into the vial. Her attention on her task, pulling out one vial quickly and putting in another before tapping his hand to relax.
Looking up a moment to see that he wasn't getting dizzy and smiled a little, waiting for the second one to fill and adding the third vial before pulling the rubber off his arm so it didn't keep the blood pumping so hard. Than had the last vial out, the needle and was putting a little gauze on the area, pushing his arm up till she got a piece of tape to hold it than put it back. "Keep your arm up for about 25 minutes and that should be enough time for it to stop. The doctor will be right with you go ahead and have a seat." With that she grabbed all her equipment and left the room.

Yeah, Markus was the kind that didn't get dizzy. It was just a little blood, not like he didn't have more. Besides, it wasn't like they were taking a pint, just a couple of ounces. He almost looked bored as her small fingers set about the task of finding a vein, or wrapping the band around his arm. He squeezed his hand several times into a fist before holding and just stood there, holding out his arm and watching as she poked the needle through the flesh into the vein, watched as the blood poured quickly from him into the first vial, then the second and then the third. His grip on the fist had already relaxed by the time she turned to tap his hand.
It wasn't like this was the first time he'd had blood drawn. He knew the drill. Sit still, keep your arm out, relax after the needle goes through, sit still, put the gauze on, keep pressure to stop the bleeding. Simple really. Markus held the gauze in place once she'd put it over the small pin prick, though waved off the small amount of tape she'd gathered to put over the gauze. He preferred to hold it. That way he could just toss it when he was done and not have to worry about picking some too strong adhesive from his skin. "Got it, thank you Marcy." He said as she slipped out of the room. Once more he looked over the patient form before letting his gaze trail around the room.
At least at this point he had something to report to Tasha. That nothing weird seemed to be going on here, but at the same time, everyone put him on edge. He could see why people avoided the clinic, just for the weird staff. And he wasn't anything but a mere human, he shouldn't have gotten that on edge feeling. Other breeds, sure, but him? Probably not so much. But he did get it, and so he understood why everyone else tended to avoid the place. Though the specifics, well that just made him curious.. made him want to investigate more. And he would too.
